We have over 285 registered households at Saint Thomas More, and so far 116 households have pledged. Please prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit what your household is able to donate this year. If every household chose to pledge $200 to CSA for the year, we would cover our entire pledge goal with leftover to cover some of the other half of our annual diocesan assessment. Giving something to CSA is a requirement in being considered an active parishioner. Our total diocesan assessment this year is approximately $90,750, so our CSA pledge goal is about $45,375. This amount is raised through pledges from parishioners. What is not raised of this amount must still be paid to the diocese from Saint Thomas More Parish. Thank you for helping us reach our CSA goal every year! Saint Thomas More Beatified 1886 Canonized 1935 Thomas More was born in 1478 in London, and began to practice law in 1502. He was married, and a father of four. By all accounts, he was a devoted husband and father. Unusual for the time, he made sure that his daughters were given the same classical education as his son. Eventually, his work as a writer and lawyer brought him to the court of King Henry VIII, where by 1529, he had been elevated to the position of Lord Chancellor. Thomas was fiercely loyal to King Henry VIII, and worked tirelessly defending the Church in England. The relationship between him and the King began to unravel when More did not support the king seeking an annulment from his wife, Catherine. Seeing the writing on the wall, Thomas resigned in 1532 rather than support King Henry VIII’s agenda. In 1534, Thomas was ordered to recognize King Henry VIII as the Head of the Church of England and his wife, Anne, as Queen. Thomas refused to acknowledge any of it, and imprisoned in the Tower of London for over a year while waiting for trial on charges of treason. His trial began on 1 July 1535, and he was found guilty after only 15 minutes of deliberation. On 6 July 1535, Thomas More stepped up to where he was to be beheaded. He joked to his executioners to help him up the scaffold, but that he would, see himself down.” He then made his final statement, proclaiming one of his most well known quotes, I die the king’s good servant, but God’s first.” Saint Thomas More is remembered and honored as a man with tremendous integrity and heroic virtue. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2024 Director of Faith Formation Michele Kenaga RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 1st—5th GRADE 2024 The classes are held in the Parish Office at 11 Broadmoor Lane 8:50-9:45 AM on Sundays. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN Classes for children in 1st-5th grades are held on the1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 8:50-9:50 AM in the Parish Office at 11 Broadmoor Lane. Children over the age of 7 preparing for Baptism will meet in the Parish Office at 11 Broadmoor Lane on the 1st and 3rd Sundays during the 10:00 AM Mass. Amen Generosity is an act of love that begins with God and pours through us. We find joy in praying… Amen Lord, live in us and let your loving generosity flow freely through us as the Church on mission to our world.” Amen means Yes Amen Generosity is a new way for us to plan for our mission, to Love God, Serve Others and Make Disciples, and how we provide the funding needed for it. We are trying to create a Catholic Culture that anchors our lives in the nourishing truth of the living Christ. In what practical ways can we make this vision a reality: Outstanding Liturgy: The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the source of our lives in Christ and from which our life of grace flows through our life and into the world. Education: Knowledge is freedom! We must give reasons for our faith in Christ. Faith isn’t merely rooted in intellectual knowledge but intimate knowledge of Christ’s love for you. Feeding our lives in knowledge of the truth, gives us the ability to grow in faith and strengthen our love for Christ and neighbor. Evangelization: Whatever we do and wherever we go, we either communicate Christ’s love or we don’t. Our ministries, activities form a Catholic culture and ethos, that should reach beyond our parish boundaries. As a parish family, we need to feed this vision with our time, talent and treasure. By dedicating our first fruits, we can ensure a genuine momentum in creating a dynamic Catholic parish and culture that feeds the community and is able to face the challenges of the present age.
